The Return of Real Hip Hop

It’s about damn time. I can’t watch MTV or BET for videos without turning away after 1 or 2 songs. It’s all the same with the same video ho’s and same cars with rims. Diamond grills, platinum chains, big tees. I miss the old school hip hop. Even Kid -N- Play. Yeah I said it, Kid -N- Play. Hip Hop was informative, creative, poetic and even FUN! Now it’s all tied into one package the media puts out for the fans. It’s like they create rap artists like they do boy bands. I remember when you bought an album you bought a piece of that artist's mind. Not just commercial track after commercial track made with a hook to keep you mind in a daze saying “Drop that ass, give me some cash.” I hate it, I hate it. Remember when Kane was on top with “Raw?” Remember Three Times Dope had “Funky Dividends?” MC Lyte was rockin’ “Paper Thin.” Now we got Dem Franchise Boyz and T Pain being in love with a stripper. Even 50 Cent is going, going, gone. He’s the butt of every other rap artist’s jokes. G Unit got it going on but for how long. Murder Inc went out quick. It was on top and then it fell like the Berlin Wall. It’s fucked up! What happened? B.I.G. had some talent and so did Tupac but it all went to shit after their deaths. I like what Snoop is doing though. He’s the Big Daddy Kane of our time. Lacing smooth tracks with that voice and keeping it Hip Hop at every turn. Snoop's song with B Real “Vato” should be a classic. I don't put artists down for trying new things or even mixing hip hop with another type of music. What gets me is when they make songs that are just hooks with beats and girls dancing around the artist in a car with 22's. Why is the Hummer a luxury car now? If I ever see a Jeep Eagle with rims I’m going to cry. A car designed for off-roading should not have rims. I love fashion big tees and fitted hats are cool but why does everyone dress the same? Kane wore suits, and LL wore sneakers with kangols. Now LL got a song with 50. I give this trend in Hip Hop one more year.

Killem Common! Bring the real Talib Kweli. Be on the look out for new albums from MC Shan, and Jeru the Damaja. Don’t forget to pick up KRS One and Marley Marl’s new album making Hip Hop history. Old beefs do die.
